About Singpeace (August, 2008)
In the Spring of 2008 I started getting emails from persons who wanted to know what was happening with the site. These interested parties prompted me to reativate Singpeace; however, this time I would give away the music, offering my own compositions as free downloads.
The songs on this site were mostly written between 2002 and 2005, while I was Minister of Music at Sayville Congregational UCC (United Church of Christ) in Long Island, New York. It was a period in my life when I felt I needed to express something other than the dominant paradigms. Encouraged by my choir while I was in this prolific chapter, I knew it was finite. Since then I have written a couple of things, one of which was featured at the 2007 General Synod of the UCC, and another as a resource for the UCC's 2008 initiative called, "A Sacred Conversation on Race." Other than that, I look back on that prolific period as something of an anomoly, and can only wonder if I will ever again feel the inspiration and impetus to write like I did during the earlier part of this decade. In fact, I look at most of it and ask myself, "did I write that?"
Browse away. Download away. Everything is free. As an aside, if you or your organization feels they want to make a donation and are in a position to do so, that will be gratefully accepted. But it is not obligatory.
If you plan on using a song and need to make copies, please request a free license using the link at the left. All I will request is your email address, which will be kept completely private, no exceptions. I will use emails only to send licenses, and occasionally, to keep in touch with peace-minded folks. All licenses give permission to copy and perform music for any non-profit purpose. Licenses are emailed instantly when you submit the request.
Sing justice. Sing diversity. Sing planet earth. Sing Peace.
